Over the weekend we were very proud to meet up with the team from DIY SOS: The Big Build who had just completed a build for a very deserving family in Kettering. The team headed by Nick Knowles, approached us to see if we would donate fence posts and gravel boards to help the McAuley family who have been recently bereaved following the death of husband and father ex-Royal Engineer Sapper, Shaun McAuley who sadly died from cancer. Shaun’s illness was a very short one, leaving the family in a profound state of shock.

Prior to Shaun falling ill, he and wife Lindsey, a midwife, had started work on an extension which Shaun had planned to finish himself once the major works were complete. Lindsey was left with an uninhabitable house while grieving her husband and trying to give her four children the love and care they need.

The DIY SOS team helped Lindsey by finishing the work that she and Shaun started so that she and the children can get back into their home and start making sense of life without Shaun. The build took place from the 16th January to the 23rd January.

Mark Swift, General Manager for Allen Concrete said “We were so pleased to be able to help the McAuley family by supplying concrete fence posts, gravel boards and path edgings to the project. We hope the work carried out by the DIY SOS team will make such a difference to them at such a very difficult time.

The programme is due to be aired later on in the year on BBC.
